Oil is called a flammable oily liquid of red-brown or black color with a specific smell. Oil is one of the most important minerals on Earth, since the most currently used fuels are obtained from it. Usually, oil is formed together with another, equally important mineral – natural gas. Therefore, very often these two types of minerals are mined in the same place. Oil can occur at a depth of several tens of meters to 6 kilometers, but most often it is located at a depth of 1-3 km. Natural gas is called a gas mixture formed during the decomposition of organic substances. It lies in the earth’s interior in a gas state in the form of separate accumulations, in the form of an oil cap of oil and gas fields, as well as in a dissolved state (in oil and in water).
To date, several dozen oil and gas fields have been discovered in Russia. Most of them are concentrated in the bowels of the Arctic seas, where their development is complicated by difficult climatic conditions. There is also the problem of the delivery of oil and gas to the places of their processing. In this regard, development is carried out only on the Sakhalin plume, as well as in mainland Russia, where fairly rich oil, gas and oil and gas fields are also found. In mainland Russia, most oil and gas fields are concentrated in Siberia and the Far East.
The most famous oil and gas fields in Russia:
Urengoyskoye field of natural gas. This is the second largest gas field in the world in terms of reservoir reserves. Gas volumes here exceed 10 trillion cubic meters. This field is located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of the Tyumen Region of Russia, just south of the Arctic Circle. The name of the field was given the name of the nearby village of Urengoy. After the start of field development, the whole working city of Novy Urengoy grew up here. The field was discovered in 1966, and gas production began in 1978.
