The mining and metallurgical industry is one of the most competitive and dynamically developing industrial sectors of Kazakhstan. It employs almost 164.5 thousand people of basic professions. Kazakhstan has 30% of the world’s chromium ore reserves, 25% – manganese ores, 10% – iron ores. Reserves of copper, lead and zinc are respectively 10% and 13% of the world. The total geological reserves and forecast resources of coal of the Republic of Kazakhstan are estimated at 150 billion tons. Of the 105 elements of the periodic table in the bowels of Kazakhstan, 99 were identified, 70 reserves were explored, more than 60 elements were involved in the production.

In the coming years, the main task of the development of the industry should be the phased creation of new manufacturing industries in the metallurgical industry, the production of high value-added products, ensuring both the growth in the production of high-tech products and the expansion of its export to foreign markets, as well as the satisfaction of the needs of the domestic market.
The mining and metallurgical sectors of Kazakhstan in recent years are one of the most dynamically developing sectors of domestic industry. 2013 was no exception. The volume of industrial production of the mining and metallurgical complex compared with 2012 increased by 2, 6% and exceeded the mark of 3, 6 trillion. tenge, which amounted to 1/5 of the total industry of Kazakhstan. The share of MMC in the gross domestic product of the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 11.4%.
