The department provides training at the educational and qualification level of the bachelor in the following specialty:
– geology specializing in geological surveying, prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits (GR).
The Department of Minerals and Environmental Geology (PIEG) was established in 1951. on the initiative of I. L. Nikolsky, who was in charge of it until 1977. Until 1999, the department was called “Exploration of Mineral Deposits” (MPI), then in connection with the organization in 1996 of a new specialty “Ecological Geology” its name was changed.
The Department of Geology was organized in 1931 with the aim of carrying out geological training of mining specialists. In a short time, the department created geological and mineralogical museums, subject rooms and laboratories. In 1937, members of the International Geological Congress during a tour of the Donbass visited the institute and the premises of the department and expressed their admiration for the rich exhibits of the museum and the equipping of laboratories. The founder of the department and its first head was Professor P.F. Churin.
